LOT 167 - SPIRIT OF BOOM x MRS. MANGO 15' (f) - Purchased by matthew c. Smith racing for $26,000 at the Gold Coast March Yearling sale

This filly screams 2YO, 2YO, 2YO! DON'T MISS YOUR CHANCE!

This is a cracking 2yo type of filly by Spirit Of Boom, whose first yearlings have been very well accepted at all major yearling sales this year. At Matthew C. Smith Racing, we just love these get up & go types of fillies that look like you could put a saddle on them straight away and take them to the races. Not only does she look like a very forward going type of filly but she also has the credentials & toughness that we look for in yearlings, that will allow them to train on into her latter years, like her sire, Spirit Of Boom, did.

This filly acquires everything we look for in a fast, early running two year old. Looking at the picture above you can see that she has a nice strong shoulder which is complemented by a lovely length of reign that leads into an alert & intelligent head. She has a nice deep girth & she is also up in the wither which defines a type of yearling that will run early. Moving down the filly to her hindquarter, it is quite noticeable that she has a lot of size & muscle which gives her a powerful walk. As well as this, she is a very correct filly, who has great bone density which is a sign of soundness whilst also being light on her feet, which allows her to glide across the ground. Overall, she is a filly that possesses a lot of substance & oozes class.

SPIRIT OF BOOM possessed speed, stamina and acceleration to win twice at Gr 1 level, the BRC Doomben 10,000 (1350m) and the MVRC William Reid Stakes (1200m). He was a fast and forward 2yo, winning three times, including a five length debut win in the Magic Millions 2YO Prelude. He went on to become a 2YO stakes winner, and place in both a Gr 2 and a Listed race.

Tough and sound, he ran 52 times amongst the best company in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth, competing to earn 19 Group race places, with places in five Gr 1’s - VRC Newmarket (2nd to Lankan Rupee), MRC Oakleigh Plate (twice) (2nd to Lankan Rupee) and the WATC Winterbottom Stakes, BRC BTC Cup (2nd to Famous Seamus).

Having the perfect temperament to train on and remain sound, his "never give up attitude" saw him race for a total of nine wins, 20 placings and prizemoney totalling $2,412,900. Natural athleticism coupled with a strong constitution and keen will to win made Spirit of Boom the perfect racehorse. If his offspring have a fraction of his speed and tenacity they will be an asset for purchasers for years to come.

SPIRIT OF BOOM was sixth on the first season sires by average list for Book 1, a remarkable achievement given his service fee of $11,000 put him as the least expensive of all first season sires with entries in this sale.

It was on the Breednet Sire Profitability list for Book I of the Magic Millions Yearling Sale that SPIRIT OF BOOM really held his head high finishing in third spot behind current leading sires Written Tycoon and I Am Invincible, who have both succeeded at the highest level having started from a very modest base fee.

His Dam, Mrs. Mango is a 4 time winner upto 1400m. She has produced two foals to race with one of them being a four time winner & metropolitan winner by All Bar One called, MR AHLBERONI.
Mr Ahlberoni was a $165,000 purchase at the 2011 Magic Millions National Breeze Up Sale which says a lot about the type of horse that Mrs. Mango is producing. He also ran the fifth quickest time of the breeze up sale, running home a slick 10:34. We feel that at $26,000, we have bought this filly very well and is by a very promising young stallion. She hails from a family that screams speedy 2yo's.
